A crime film to me has to be for viewers of 18 or older. To me to get the truest aspect of crime you can not hold back on any of the realistic representation of the true nature of crime. For example if it was a gangster film has to show the true environment. Like drug abuse and general violence and swearing because they are in a mob and are trying to prove to each other that they are fit to be a part of it, however if it was a younger age you would have to cut down on all of these for it to fit the viewing age. nonetheless depending on the sub genre it can have a lower age certificate in thriller films where there is only one villain the dire behaviour can be cut down as the villain is only proving his mayhem to himself so there could be less general abuse
